3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
